Our Terrific Trip to Truckee

Since here in Northern California schools don’t have a winter break, we created one of our own last week! We headed up to Truckee, just outside of North Lake Tahoe for a 3 day mini-vacation.

Our first stop was to Northstar ski resort for some ice skating. Grace has been literally begging to go ice skating for years so to say she was excited would be a huge understatement!

It was a tough go in the beginning, but Chris and I finally remembered how to ice skate and Grace caught on very quickly, while Emma decided to take a goldfish break and watch!
That night for dinner we went to downtown Truckee (so cute!) and went to Burger Me – an awesome burger joint we had seen featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. It lived up to all we had heard about it – yummy!!

The next day we headed to Tahoe City to visit the sledding hill at Granlibakken. It is a little resort and the hill was the perfect size (more importantly the walk up each time wasn’t too bad!) and it wasn’t crowded at all. We all ended the day worn out and sunburned with some really great family memories.
On the way back to Truckee we stopped at Squaw Valley, home of the 1960 Winter Olympics! It is so beautiful there and the sky was so blue - a perfect day.
The girls especially enjoyed their gelato and watching all of the skiers on the slopes. Maybe next time we will give it a shot!
On our last day in Truckee we headed to Kings Beach in North Lake Tahoe. It was warm enough to play on the beach and for the girls to wade out in the water up to their knees (with jeans and sneakers on of course!).
We headed home from our mini-break-from-reality happy, sunburned and wanting to plan our next trip to Truckee/Tahoe!!
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.
- Psalm 23:2-3
